William Hill Granted eSports Betting License for Nevada

In a historic turn of events William Hill, one of the UK’s most reputable and well-known sports betting and online casino sites, has been granted an eSports betting licensed in the United States. William Hill will be the first bookmaker in history to offer this service to American players.

The license was granted to the William Hill’s sportsbook branch at the Downtown Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Since Nevada is the country’s capital in terms of gambling, it comes as no surprise that this state has been given an eSports license.

According to Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval, the state was to become the e-sports capital of the world. He said in a statement, “By embracing this unique opportunity and incorporating innovation and technology into our gaming industry, we’re expanding the potential of one of our oldest industries.”

In case you are wondering about how big eSports betting really is, Forbes reported that wagering on eSports would reach nearly $30 billion by 2020 with over 15 million individuals being a part of the action. In addition, there’s been 28 eSports tournaments this year alone, with prizes of at least $1 million. The biggest tournament of them all offered a prize of a cool $20 77 million.
